Week 4 (Mar 3-9)Avant Garde! -Take 2đŹ and Take 3đŹ
I tried another couple of avant garde looks over the weekend, in large part because I wanted to get in the Yves Saint Laurent Couture Mini Clutch Eyeshadow Palette 100 Stora Dolls.
Also, having previously done a couple of looks for the BalettteRoyale inspired from 2 of the 3 musicians featured in the Sephora co-produced/co-sponsoredFaces of Musicdocumentary, I felt like it was only fair to try a look inspired by the third featured musician, Becky G, which included a fabulous cat eye which for her, also includes the detail of lining the inner corner of her eye with liquid liner. In her segment, she also uses gemstones for added sparkle.
Not gonna lie, lining the inner corner with a liquid eyeliner (or with any liner for me) took several tries. And, aftersome self-editing of the rhinestones, here's the end result:
1. Primed eyelids with NARS Pro-Prime⢠Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base Original
2. Shade 2 from YSL Stora Dolls all over lid bringing the color justabove my crease, with one side of SEPHORA COLLECTION PRO Shadow Brush #15
3. Shade 4 packed onto just the lid, with the other side of the SC 15 brush
4. Shade 3 onto outer V and blend, with Wayne Goss The Collector's Edition #12 Small Pencil Brush (there was some fall out onto the lower lash line)
5. Light tap of Shade 1 to middle of lid with the WG #12
6. Line upper lashes with Danessa Myricks Beauty Linework Paintbrush Fluid Liquid Eyeliner 0.034 oz / 1 ml, tiny-ish cat eye and line the inner cornerđŹ - I overdid it with the cotton swab, blending out the liner more than I should have / wanted to
7. Curl lashes with Shiseido Eyelash Curlerand apply Clio Kill Lash Superproof Mascara Long Curling.
Then for no other reason than just to see if I could do a look combining something from all three of the musicians' looks in the documentary, I tried a slightly similar look, aiming to incorporate stars from Chappell Roan's look, a green liquid liner from Victoria Monet'slook, lining the inner corner of the eye from Becky G's look along with some extra sparkle, but with eyeshadow instead of gems.
1. Primed lids with my foundation (Urban Decay Face Bond Self Setting Waterproof Foundation) and even though the UD is self setting, I set the foundation on my lids with SEPHORA COLLECTION Translucent Loose Setting Powder(gratis - thank you,@TeamBIC!)
2. Apply Shade 2 from YSL Stora Dolls all over the lid with one side of a SC 15 brush, bringing the color past my natural crease
3. Apply Shade 4 onto just my lid space with the other side of SC 15
4. Lightly press Shade 3 onto lid, from middle of lid to outer corner with one side of a second SC 15
5. Apply Shade 3 onto outer V with a heavier hand, with WGThe Collector's Edition #12 Small Pencil Brush, and blend into crease
6. Pack Shade 1 onto lid, from inner corner to middle of the lid, with the other side of the second SC 15 - there was fall out onto my waterline from the sparkles from this shade. When I was watching Anna Sawai's Vogue get ready YT video, she mentioned fall out from her eye pencil and using it, smudging it slightly instead of cleaning it up, to add to a smoky eye look. I went with a similar approach here when some sparkles made their way to my lower lash line. It actually looks not too bad with the inner corners being lined. You know, sometimes, it's the things we don't plan or intend that end up working out better than we could even imagine. That's probably true not just for makeup.đ
7. Line with Danessa Myrick Liquid EyeLiner, including inner corners and wing
8. Line above the DM line with SEPHORA COLLECTION Sephora ColorfulÂŽ Wink-It Felt Tip Liquid Waterproof Eyeliner 03 Army Babe(a substitute for the green used in the documentary) to the outer corner - this didn't turn out as well as I hoped and the green doesn't really show up
9. Curl lashes and apply a layer of waterproof mascara - #SEPHORA COLLECTION Love The Lift Curling + Volumizing Waterproof Mascara Ultra Black
10. Apply just a teensy amount of UD Bond on the side of eyeas primer and to make the shadows for the stars show up better
11. Paint on stars with stencils and one layer of Shade 3, topped with one layer of Shade 1
12. Apply second coat of mascara, this time - PAT McGRATH LABS FetishEyes⢠Lengthening Mascara 0.27 oz/ 8 mL
Done! In hindsight, I would have tried to (i) do a thicker second line of the green eyeliner on the upper lash line, (ii) create more of a curve with the stars, and (iii) add falsies.
I went further with this challenge than I thought I would be able to. In general, I'm pretty content with a wash of color on my lids and a coat of mascara, occasionally adding a second shade and/or liquid liner. I had a lot of fun trying my hand at doing something I don't normally do with my eye looks with this challenge. A huge "thank you"@danielledaniellefor your creativity with this challenge.đ And a "thank you" to folks for their inspirational looks and thoughtful and supportive comments.đ
